چکیده

Cholera posed a significant threat causing outbreaks/epidemics with high morbidity and mortality in Odisha. This study envisages the characterisation of isolated pathogen from two cholera outbreaks reported 2018 2019 Bargarh Rayagada districts Odisha respectively. Vibrio cholerae O1 were following standard techniques. The different virulent drug resistant genes detected by multiplex PCR assays; whereas ctxB genotypes characterised through double mismatch amplification mutation (DMAMA) assay. further sequenced pulse-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was done on some selected strains. clinical water isolates Haitian variant (HCT) V. Ogawa biotype El Tor multi strains both places. All positive for virulence genes. antibiotic like dfrA1 (100%), strB (76.9%), intSXT (61.5%) detected. PFGE results exhibited pulsotypes. These due to multidrug HCT which circulating caused So continuous surveillance diarrheal disorders is highly essential prevent future this region.

Rapid spread of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor variant in Odisha, Eastern India, in 2008 and 2009.

The emergence and spread of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains causing severe diarrhea has been witnessed worldwide in recent years. In the state of Odisha, India, the spread of the V. cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains was studied during outbreaks in 2008 and 2009. Analysis of 194 V. cholerae O1 Ogawa strains revealed that V. cholerae O1 El Tor variant strains are spreading gradually th...

Emergence of Vibrio cholerae O1 biotype El Tor serotype Inaba causing outbreaks of cholera in Orissa, India.

A total of 431 rectal swabs, collected from acute diarrheal cases at a surveillance site and at different diarrheal outbreak areas of Orissa from May to October 2005, were bacteriologically analyzed. Out of 265 culture-positive samples, Vibrio cholerae O1 was isolated in 56 samples (20.8%), of which 37 were the Inaba serotype and 19 were the Ogawa. The antibiogram profile revealed that all the ...

Spread of cholera with newer clones of Vibrio cholerae O1 El Tor, serotype inaba, in India.

During 2004 and 2005, cholera was recorded in 15 states of India, with 7 outbreaks. The newly emerged Vibrio cholerae O1 Inaba had a different antibiogram and ribotype, different pulsotypes, and different mutations in the wbeT gene. Due to the absence of serogroup O139, the Inaba serotype may have acquired the potential to affect the population at large.

Persistent diarrhoea in a 5-month-old baby carrying Vibrio cholerae nonO1/nonO139 producing Haitian cholera toxin

Cholera toxin (CT) is the principal virulence factor of Vibrio cholerae for fatal cholera diarrhoea. Serogroups O1 and O139 harbour CT and are known to be epidemic strains. The remaining serogroups (nonO1/nonO139) are non-toxigenic and may be associated with mild disease. O1 serogroup emerged with a variant of CT known as Haitian cholera toxin (HCT). The HCT strains are hypervirulent and have b...
